Constituents of Rep. Nunn hold town hall in Ottumwa

Around 70 constituents of Congressman Zach Nunn gathered in Ottumwa last Saturday. The Congressman didn’t show. They continued to speak out against the devastating cuts already made by Elon Musk’s DOGE to essential services, proposed cuts to health care and food assistance, and tariffs that are raising prices.

The town hall took place just after Nunn voted to support Trump's cost-raising tariffs and advance a budget plan that requires massive cuts to Medicaid, food assistance, and other essential programs. Speakers shared how these Republican actions are raising costs and hurting the programs Iowans rely on in order to pay for more tax cuts for wealthy corporations and billionaires.

Steve Seigel of AFSCME Council 61 asked the absent Congressman if he supported these cuts and the devastation they will cause for Iowa families.

“Billionaires have been promised huge tax cuts and so now they are demanding huge budget cuts to pay for them.” Seigel said. “Rep. Nunn, do you support tax cuts for billionaires? Rep. Nunn, do you support cutting millions of Americans off Medicaid? Rep. Nunn, do you support further privatization of Social Security, the VA, or any other government programs, thus taking services from hard working Americans by allowing the billionaires to skim off the top?”
