Constituents Tell Congressman Nunn: No More Handouts to Corporations and Billionaires

A group of constituents met with Nunn’s staff to voice concerns over extending the 2017 GOP Tax Law

Constituents visited Congressman Zach Nunn’s Des Moines office Wednesday morning to speak with his staff to urge him to oppose the extension of the 2017 GOP Tax Law—a massive handout to wealthy corporations and billionaires instead of hardworking Iowans—when it expires next year.

Around the country many are spending this period between Election Day and the Inauguration waiting for the new Congress and administration to take over, but some Iowans are voicing their concerns to their elected leaders now.

“This is the time to visit Nunn’s staff to talk about issues that affect us, like the 2017 tax law,” Antonia Rivera, communications organizer for Progress Iowa said. “Members of Congress are already getting to work on extending the tax law and conversations are happening. The rich are not waiting. Corporations are not waiting.”

Iowans shared stories and concerns surrounding extending the 2017 GOP tax law, which gave massive tax handouts to the ultra-wealthy while everyday people saw little to no benefit. Nunn has repeatedly supported bills that prioritized corporations and the wealthiest individuals, like  the Default on America Act, which would have given $6 billion in tax breaks to big oil and gas companies and protected rich tax cheats while slashing things working families depend on. His constituents are urging him to support the working families he is elected to represent instead.
