ICYMI: Wealthy Americans Evade $150 Billion in Taxes Annually

Why does Congressman Zach Nunn want to make it harder to enforce the law? Nunn’s Votes to Roll Back Funding Would Limit Ability to Go After Rich Tax Cheats

Des Moines, Iowa -- The head of the Internal Revenue Service said this week that ultra-wealthy tax evaders cost our country $150 billion each year by failing to file taxes or under-reporting their income. Congressman Zach Nunn, who has voted repeatedly to cut funding for efforts to prevent this evasion, hasn’t publicly commented on the news.

Matt Sinovic, Executive Director of Progress Iowa, released the following statement in response:

“Why does Congressman Nunn want to make it harder to enforce the law and hold wealthy tax cheats accountable? They get to keep $150 billion while the rest of us struggle to pay for food and other basic necessities because Republicans have rigged the tax code in favor of the rich. Instead of making the ultra-rich pay their fair share, Congressman Zach Nunn has consistently voted to roll back IRS funding to crack down on these tax evaders. We are calling on Congressman Zach Nunn to vote against any additional cuts to funding intended to go after wealthy tax cheats and support a tax system that is fair for hardworking Iowans.”
