Trump’s federal funding cuts blocked checks owed to Iowa farmers

Des Moines, Iowa – Trump keeps breaking his promises to American consumers. He said he’d lower grocery prices, bring down inflation, and that his cuts wouldn’t hurt farmers. Now, Trump’s federal funding freeze has stopped conservation checks owed to Iowa farmers.

As a result of the funding cuts, hundreds of farmers in Iowa are owed roughly $10 million under federal initiatives that pledged to pay them for undertaking conservation initiatives in 2024. Along with other funding cuts, and new tariffs, farmers have multiple reasons to be concerned, according to Iowa Farmers Union President Aaron Lehman.

In addition to his statements to the Des Moines Register, Aaron Lehman, President of the Iowa Farmers Union, said:

“President Trump is hitting farmers from all sides. First with tariffs, then inflation increasing the cost of farm inputs. Now he’s withholding funds promised to farmers that he shouldn’t have control over. Congress holds the government's purse strings, not President Trump and billionaire Elon Musk. Representatives Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks should be banging down his door to stop these cuts, but instead of working for Iowans they’re serving Trump’s harmful agenda.”
