House Budget Resolution That Would Gut Medicaid and SNAP for Iowa Families Moves Toward Floor Vote

Des Moines, Iowa – Last night, the House Rules Committee advanced the House Budget Resolution – a proposal that would slash funding for Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and clean energy tax credits – setting up a vote on the House floor as early as today. Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Congressman Zach Nunn should reject this budget that threatens the health and financial security of hundreds of thousands of Iowans all to give more tax breaks to wealthy companies, millionaires, and billionaires.

In recent weeks, Iowans have made their voices clear. From showing up to Miller-Meeks’ and Nunn’s offices to demand they not cut Medicaid, to writing and asking their representative to focus on helping Iowans, constituents are standing against these harmful cuts.

“Lawmakers should take note: Iowans are watching, and they don’t want their elected leaders to sacrifice their health and livelihoods to give the richest among us more tax breaks,” Executive Director of Progress Iowa Matt Sinovic said. “Any member who votes for this budget is voting to make life harder for their own constituents. We urge Reps. Miller-Meeks and Nunn to do the right thing: reject this reckless budget and stand with the Iowans they represent.”
